“You had to be there!” newly wedded bride Olivia Humplestilkson beamed as she uploaded her wedding photos for the 40th time to an audience of two understanding in-laws.
Eyes began to roll as fading, forgettable high school classmates scrolled past the photos in search of newer and more compelling ways to kill their brain cells.
“I don’t know why she’s still posting this shit!” Earl muttered under his breath as he slammed his phone down preferring to embrace the warm glow dancing from the TV. As always in America, life goes on.
Relax, I’m not talking about your wedding photos, this is meant to be satire. Please like, comment, share and tell me if you see the wedding photos // what types of posts you’re seeing enough to write a satire piece on.
How-to-write posts that all basically say the same thing; read a lot, write a lot, learn from your mistakes, and don’t give up no matter how many rejections you get. When I first started writing about 25 years ago I would read Paris Review interviews of famous authors to get the same advice in the pre-internet days.
I imagine its advice that bears repeating for the newcomers.
The best writing advice I have ever received is write the stories you would want to read.
I also think all great writing has an element of truth behind it and is colorful to your imagination. – but yes, there are a lot of those posts.
Took me 20 years to get to the point where I actually enjoyed reading my own writing, and it was worth it!
That’s great! Even for me sometimes I don’t like to go back and read my old writing, I think as writers we can be our own worst critic at times. But I’m sure it’s cool to see how you have progressed over the years.
I have to admit that I never read my old stuff, but maybe someday I’ll go through it all as a trip down memory lane.
I liked this a lot. There is plenty to build on. The constant forcing of what we like on others is Silver. The “fading, forgettable high school classmates” is gold
Thank you! I appreciate that – yeah, I’ve been kind of toying with some more satire articles lately
I look forward to it
