How can I get paid doing what I love?
That’s the question most writers — myself included — have asked at some point.
Or put another way: How can we actually get paid to write?
Because we know it’s possible. We see people doing it all the time: writers ditching their 9-to-5 to work on projects that actually energize them.
But what we don’t hear as often is how they’re doing it.
Or better yet, meeting the people who have.
Here’s the good news: this is something I’ve done, and now I help other writers do the same.
So, what’s the best way to make money as a writer?
The answer is ghostwriting.
What Is Ghostwriting?
When most people think of ghostwriting, they picture writing books for someone else. And while that’s true (I’ve done it), that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
Ghostwriting today means writing educational, thought-leadership-style content for people who have valuable knowledge to share. Think of investors, entrepreneurs, creators, executives, and business owners.
At its core, you’re helping a client solve a business problem with writing by writing in their voice. That could mean:
-
Email newsletters
-
Educational email courses
-
Thought-leadership articles
-
Social content (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, etc.)
-
And much more — all in your client’s voice.
Here’s the simple way to think about the opportunity:
-
Every business needs customers.
-
To get customers, businesses first need to collect contact info (emails, phone numbers, etc.).
-
Most businesses are terrible at this.
-
& Most businesses have incomplete marketing systems. In a perfect world, content leads to a landing page, which leads to a newsletter — all of which ghostwriters can create.
That’s where you come in.
My Big Announcement
As many of you know, I’ve always talked about offering a writing education course. And as fate would have it, I now do this professionally, alongside running my own ghostwriting business.
And today, my job is to educate writers about this opportunity through a personalized ghostwriting mentorship program.
So, if you want to make money as a ghostwriter, I’d love to help you do exactly that.
Truly.
If you’re honestly interested, please send me an email to Anthony@ship30for30.com and we’ll set up a Zoom call. Let me know you read this article here.
But before you do, there are three things I do want you to seriously consider:
-
Do you actually want this?
Success as a ghostwriter (and if we’re being honest, anything) requires commitment. It has to move from a “nice idea” to “I’m going to make this happen,” if you want to have success. Because when you take it seriously, you’re more likely to get serious results. -
Are you willing to put in the work?
The mentorship program essentially helps you launch your own business, provides mentorship covering everything from A to Z, and connects you with writers worldwide who are also doing this. But results only come if you do the work, not just learn the information. You have to actually go for it to have success. -
Are you ready to invest?
This is more than financial. It’s about mentally investing in yourself and refusing to settle for the status quo. Every person wants to see what they’re capable of but you only find out if you commit with the right mindset.
Why I Believe in This
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I don’t advertise on my blog. And I never share something I don’t believe in.
But this I do.
Ghostwriting has worked for me. It’s what I do professionally, and it’s something I’m proud to share.
If you’re brand new to the idea, here’s a comprehensive FAQ plus a few YouTube videos to help you get oriented.

I love writing. And I love helping writers make money through writing.

I think it’s wonderful that your offering your time to help others. Interesting and educational piece.
Thanks so much!
Through it all I learned that success is actually possible and many writer really do benefit from a community.
Like anything it’s just a matter of going for it.
To be honest I am sorry if this offends but I couldn’t think of anything more boring than being a ghostwriter. I would rather write for free and be as creative as I want because writing about figures and stuff just bores me. It might be a good way to make money and I’m sure a lot of people enjoy it, but I don’t think It’s for everyone. It’s not for me but I do think it’s great that you help people get into it. I enjoyed reading your post but I think I’m going to stick with my kind of writing because I get enjoyment out of it and for me that’s worthy of anything money can buy.
Honestly nothing wrong with that.
Personally – I love writing fiction and I don’t plan on ever stopping. But this is a great way to earn extra money while using the skill of writing.
Also I’d recommend working on personal projects first and client work second.
Appreciate you reading!
I’ve written every so often for execs and leaders in the corporate world. It’s always interesting in talking to them. I’ll ask about their families or passions. They’ll think I’m making small talk. Meanwhile I’m really trying to find the stories and words that make them tick and make them come off as human. The little things build to become bigger things. Best of luck on the success of training course and the growth of your ghostwriting biz Tony! 😎😎😎😎
Thanks so much my friend!
Yeah it’s cool. And like so important. Because we all want to know our boss is a real human. It helps us like them.
The cool thing with ghostwriting is you can write for people in industry that personally interests you. That’s at least what I do!
Thanks for sharing! Awesome tips!
Happy you enjoyed!!
Sounds like a great opportunity for those ready/at that place in their lives. Good luck with the course Tony
Thank you so much! It is! The biggest thing is it has to be something you really want to do. But for me, it’s money coming in that I can use to write creatively
Now that I’m back to my blog, I’m looking forward to reading more of your work too 🙂
Thank you so much my friend!!!
