I was very fortunate enough to do an interview because of my new book, Letters From Jasper – (The one I won’t shut the hell up about)

 

And personally, it’s something I’d like to do a lot more of.

 

But I did an interview, and I’d love it if you checked it out.

INTERVIEW:

I was lucky enough to find Anthony’s blog “Tonysbologna” when I was looking to expand my blog reading earlier this year. I managed to sign up in time to see Tony putting the finishing touches to his first novel (but not his first book – more on that later!) and now it’s his Launch Month. He was kind enough to agree to be in the Spotlight today.

Tony, the slugline of your blog is “Honest. Satirical. Observations.” Is that the way you approached your book?

As I think about it, I’d definitely say yes.

When I first had the idea to write a book, I had all these outlandish ideas. Like, I have a theory (one I hope to test someday) that anything you thought was cool at age eight would probably make for a wildly successful commercial book.

Look at Mr. Beast — I’m convinced all his ideas are something he thought about when he was a kid.

And for the record, mine was A School for Knights and Ninjas — but when it came to actually writing that, I had no idea where to start.

As a writer, I can only write what I know.

And in my own life, a few things I knew well were:

1. Being trapped in a long car ride where you want to rip your eyelashes off.
2. Having a sick father.
3. The comedy of roadside America, and the heartache of grief.

As a person, my favorite stories were always the ones that made me laugh and cry — A Man Called Ove, Little Miss Sunshine, Everything Is Illuminated. And if I was going to write a book, I wanted to write something I’d genuinely be a fan of.

So that’s kind of how Letters from Jasper was born.

Philosophy-wise, I think the best writing always comes from a true place — especially in the age of AI, where authenticity is at an all-time premium.

As a reader, it’s only human to want to know you’re not alone, and just being honest about what you see, feel, and observe — it has this connecting ability.

So when I was writing my book, I pulled from my own life — real things I’d observed and people I’d met — to mine inspiration. Throughout my entire writing journey, all my stories trace back to something that was either real or observed. And as long as I felt that twinge of emotion, I knew I could write about it.

So writing the book was really just finding the honest moments of my life — the ones where I felt something — and using that as the base, then translating it into narrative form.

And when it’s done well, I think it has a quality that transcends the page and makes you feel connected to the author.
