What’s the Difference Between a Kangaroo and a Human

He meant well.

He really did.

But you were feeling incredulous.

Five hours of forced bonding at a five-acre petting zoo will do that to you.

But when you hear a question… one question that shatters your mind, well… when that happens, all you’re left with are the pieces.

For context, you were at the gift shop, deciding whether a stuffed alpaca was an acceptable birthday gift, while the rest of the party was at the kangaroo exhibit, gawking at the roos when the inevitable kangaroo question came up, after a quick glance at the pouch.

“How do kangaroos have babies?”

The group you were with, who apparently were allergic to reading signs, turned to each other as if one of them had the answer.

You’d already stepped out of the gift shop, and grimaced at the thought of another question, when a teenage worker cleared his throat and stepped in front of the kangaroos, eyebrows raised.

“Do you know what the difference is between a kangaroo and a human?”

And that’s what knocked you on your ass.

Because he said it like it was one thing.

Said it like he was certain.

Said it like somewhere, in the history before time, someone had tapped him on the shoulder and let him in on a little secret.

And this is where the story diverges, because his answer didn’t matter.

What matters is you just heard the funniest question you’ll ever overhear.

I brought this up to a few of my friends.

“What do you think the difference between a kangaroo and a human is?”

The answers were:

“One of them has a sense of humor.”

“One of them understands the Heimlich maneuver.”

“One of them didn’t forget to take out the cat litter today.”

“One of them can spell cock-a-doodle-doo.”

“One understands what an internet connection is.”

“I don’t know… one’s a human… the other’s a kangaroo.”

The list goes on.

So what’s the official difference between a kangaroo and a human?

A human will write an article because he’s amused by the question.

A kangaroo can control when it gets pregnant.

Who knew?

Please like, comment, share and tell me what you think. What’s the difference? Add to the list. This story and this comment have been stuck in my head for about a month now.
