You feel it before your brain can process it.
That sudden jolt of white-hot pain as your toe finds itself on the wrong side of a hard box.
THUMP
“Owww… Fuuuck!”
And you collapse to the ground, grabbing your foot like a soccer player trying to draw a red card from a blue breeze.
A moment ago, you were walking the same path you take to bed every night.
The path you’ve walked for a decade, mind you.
But tonight, something’s different.
Tonight, someone sabotaged your path.
The question is… who?
Your mind races, while the pain sears, and you start connecting dots that never needed to be connected.
The first suspect is your wife.
Your damn, betraying, box-laying wife.
She’s always reorganizing things that don’t need reorganizing, creating chaos in her wake.
How could you have been so stupid to marry her?
But then… you remember.
She’s out of town.
…Been gone for days.
Your brain hurts now, too, watching the suspect slip away.
Then a smile creeps onto your face.
It’s your kids.
Your entitled, make-a-mess kids.
They were probably playing hide and seek, moved the box, and never put it back.
How could you have raised such lazy bastards?
But then, you frown.
They’re not home tonight.
You pound the ground, and up comes the dog.
That damn dog is always moving things around the house.
First it was the socks, then the shoes, and now this?
He was supposed to be man’s best friend.
But as you turn to the dog, and see his eyebrows raised, inching closer with concern, you know it was never him.
He doesn’t have thumbs.
You’re frustrated now.
Seething.
Trying to place the blame for your foot-throbbing demise.
Who moved the box?
Who was the idiot that moved this damn box?!
Then you remember…
The idiot was you.

A tale as old as time my friend
Stubbing a toe is the worst. And then I feel guilty because my extreme reaction concerns my dog and he comes rushing to help. And no, it’s never his fault.
Hahah it’s funny how we all do the same thing, thank you for reading my friend
Reads more like fact 🙂 So true, I think we all have had moments like this 🙂 I chuckled reading this.
Sounds like something I would do. Great story.
Thank you so so much!
Haha. We’re always setting ourselves up for pain and torment. 🤣😂😆
Always are, what a joy to be human
😆🤣😂 We just can’t get right sometimes.
What’s more aggravating is when you stub your toe even though things were all in the same spot.😂 “How the hell could that happen? I walk the same way every damn day!”
Me too haha!
