The Browns Should Bench Shedeur Sanders… For Now

You can’t unsee what you saw.

The poise.

The presence.

The polish.

Everything that comes with Shedeur Sanders.

By all accounts, Shedeur’s NFL debut was a giant middle finger to the league.

And good for you, Shedeur.

You’ve got two of mine, too.

He went 14–23 for 138 yards with two touchdown passes in the first half and, by all measures, looked like the future of Cleveland.

But even with the spotlight, I’ve got to say it:

Shedeur Sanders should not start.

Not yet.

Remember Your First Day

Think about your first day at work—

The onboarding.

The pamphlets.

The day that feels twice as long because you’re still on training wheels.

That’s not an accident.

It’s how people get up to speed.

The NFL’s no different.

Quarterbacks often ripen when they sit.

And in the chaos that is the Cleveland Browns franchise, we’re experts at ruining good talent.

Now we’ve got something good—

Something tangible.

Something that feels like a promise—

We have to protect it.

Shedeur’s earned his promotion. No one doubts that.

The challenge is the execution.

Let him sit behind Joe Flacco for a month.

Just one.

Learn the ropes.

Learn how to be a pro.

Then get the hell out of his way.

Because Shedeur is the answer to a franchise with problems—

And he’s got the swagger and the chip on his shoulder to match a city full of underdawgs.

Let’s not screw it up.

Please like, comment, share and tell me what you think. I live in Cleveland and I do want to write for the Browns, so I might be dropping Browns articles here and there.

  1. Hmm, I agree, but for different reasons. Yes, I think Sanders is better than a fifth round pick. But I wouldn’t be willing to hand over the reigns to him quite yet. I think he’ll be okay, but he still has much to learn and I still can’t overlook the woeful panthers! Ha ha. Good luck.

    1. Him being drafted in the fifth round had nothing to do with his playing skills nor marketability. It was America’s original problem that too many of its citizens can’t seem to get enough of.
